Issues such as the overpopulation of northern dogs, the continual tethering of dogs including sled dogs, and puppy mills fall under provincial legislation.  You can write to your elected member of provincial or territorial government (MPP/MNA/MLA) to express your sentiments on these matters.  

Members of Parliament (MPs) have the ability to propose amendments to the animal cruelty sections of the Criminal Code of Canada so you can also write to your MP, especially as this portion of the Code needs modernizing.  Find your MP here.

Animal Justice is leading the fight against animal cruelty in Canada.  

Animal Alliance of Canada works on legislative advocacy initiatives to protect animals and the environment.

It goes without saying that if you witness abuse or neglect, contact your local authorities.
