Dog Meat Trade

While Canada does not have any dog meat farms, dogs in this trade can be subjected to the cold. The Humane Society International/Canada is working with local groups to lobby for change, and routinely rescues dogs from this barbaric industry.

Dogs suffer terribly in parts of Asia as victims of the dog meat trade for human consumption. They live in appalling conditions and then are crammed together on the back of trucks and driven for days—sick, hungry, thirsty, injured and afraid—then beaten to death or hanged in slaughterhouses or markets.  In South Korea, dogs are  bred in barren cages, without proper food, water or protection from the elements, including snow.  The dog meat trade is not only cruel, but is also linked to the spread of rabies and other diseases.
